One Step at A Time: Utah to Mexico
Arizona Daily Star Tucson, Arizona | Published: 07.17.2008 By Andrea Rivera

Don't try to hike a mile in Ed Cleveland's boots. Cleveland and five friends, who all belonged to the Sun City Vistoso Hiking Club, set out to walk all 800 miles of the Arizona Trail, which extends from the Arizona/Mexico border to the Utah state line.....................

The University of Arizona’s solar car has qualified for a 2,400-mile race, thanks in no small part to two volunteers — a retired air traffic controller and a former businessman — who share a passion for solar energy and tenacious, can-do attitudes.

When Harland Goertz, of Sun City Vistoso, and Phil Davis, of Oro Valley, joined the Arizona Solar Racing Team in March, the car lay in pieces, the student team had dwindled to four, and funds were short. “I could immediately see that they weren’t going to go to the race unless something was done drastically and fast,” said Goertz, a former air ........

Monday, June 16, 2008 - Mission Accomplished!
Ed Cleveland has done it! Ed has walked every mile of the Arizona Trail. This trail spans from the U.S. border to the Utah border, adistance of 800 miles. At age 68 Ed set a goal to undertake this daunting task. With much logistical planning, many miles of driving to trailheads, sometimes camping overnight, and two of the most difficult segments
left until the last, backpacking over very difficult terrain, he did it all. At 78 years old he can now say, Mission Accomplished.
Congratulations to you Ed!

SCV Golf Course - LOW SCORE RECORD
On May 16, 2008 Joe LaFontaine played a superb round of golf from the Blue Tees at our SCV golf course by recording a record low 66. He scored that nearly flawless 66 by shooting seven birdies and committing only one bogie. Joe's putting was nothing less that outstanding and his approach shots placed him close enough to allow his putter to work its magic. It was a great day, and a great score that resulted in a fabulous record. CONGRATULATIONS Joe!
